How to prepare: Sound
Please make sure to avoid extreme stereo effects on the low frequencies below 200 Hz as this can sound extremely different in a club than what you expect and for cutting on vinyl extreme width in the lowest frequencies needs to be avoided.
Always check that your music is "mono compatible" by using the "mono" button.
Some sounds can get extremely low in volume, or disappear completetly, if you add too much stereo width to them.
How to prepare: File volume
If you are using a lot of compression and limiting on the master channel of your tracks while producing, then do not turn them off before you send them.
For Analog Mastering it is better to have a track that is not extremely compressed.
The maximum volume of the file can go up to -0.1dB.
Please make sure the file is not clipping!
How to prepare: Working with an Analyzer
We strongly recommend to monitor your master signal with an analyzer and compare for example with existing music that you know sounds good in a club etc.
Is the level of highs similar or way lower/higher?
Wat about the subs?
Good analyzers are for example:
RME - Digi Check (free, but only for RME audio interface users)
SIR Audio Tools - Spectrum Analyzer
Tokyo Dawn Labs - Prism (free)
Our Job: Sound and Volume
There is no "perfect sound".
It is about personal taste and depends on the location and sound system.
Our goal is to create a master that sounds as good as possible on as many sound systems as possible.
It does help a lot when you explain your preferences when you send the tracks fo mastering.
How loud and how much processing is different for every client, so there is no real standard.
Some want extreme volume, others prefer more dynamic range and less volume. We only know if you tell us your preferences.
Vinyl: Playtime and RPM
For the best loudness on vinyl we recommend:
7" SINGLE max 5-6 minutes
10" MAXI max 12 minutes
12" MAXI max 15 minutes
RPM depends on track length and sound
Maybe on 33RPM we can cut louder
If you want a specific RPM please let us know upfront
